Independent Studies
Madagascar Capstone: An Artistic Strategy to Saving the Zoopharmacognosy and Ethnobotany of Ranomafana National Park Area; a study of self-medication in nonhuman primates of the park.
Medical Illustration: Exquisite Corpse; History, contemporary, and future impacts of the art of medicine and surgery, explored through my own art practices, with particular interest in Victorian and Renaissance-era anatomy.
Specimen Curation: Preparing and collecting bird specimen pelts to add to the Lawrence Ornithology Collection, as well as digitizing, re-cataloguing, cleaning, and drawing the University’s antique bird collection. My work culminated in a 4 week exhibition of specimens, art, and artifacts illustrating the role of specimen collection in science titled A Fine Specimen.
Study Abroad Experience
SUNY Madagascar, Fall 2015: An 11 week program focusing on the island’s unique environment, people, and biodiversity. My experience revolved around independent research of zoopharmacognasy (self-medication by animals other than humans) practiced by lemurs in Ranomafana Nat’l Park, culminating in a paper and acrylic illustrations of the park’s traditional botanical medicines.
